Are we missing out the fun being quarantined at home?

Remember the days, when we literally rushed every morning going to school? Yup! Those were the days when we students needed to be in school on time. To be in the classroom before our teachers arrive. Every free time was never enough for our “girls talk”’ while the boys were in their favorite corner too. Sometimes together we share crazy-nonsense talks and giggles. Oh! That always made our day. The days when those having “secret crushes” would always find time to have a look at someone's classroom. The hi and hellos, the smiles, the unnecessary rants in the hallway, or in the playground. I am sure you and I are missing it all now. Each month was loaded with different academic and non-academic activities. Science Club activities, Buwan ng Wika, Christmas Parties, Student Council Elections, High School Nights, graduations and most of all the Prom Night are among the school activities that we wish to attend again soon. All we can do is to reminisce about our fun memories we had from the past.

Covid-19 remains incurable and fatal. Face to face classes are still impossible for us. Online schooling or modular learning for some, are the alternatives that we are in now while the world is still battling our invisible foe.  Pandemic has brought so much changes in our life, be it at home or in school. While it is true that it has a big impact on us, many businesses collapsed, loss of income, and the lives of some of our loved ones were taken away. Last year, people were full of fear and anxieties, the world came to a halt.  But we take this event as a positive awareness to us. Many lessons are to be taken seriously by each one of us, from taking care of our planet, to our personal health, and to our outlook in life.

This pandemic has touched all angles of our lives, health, financial, mental, our faith, our being patriotic, our creativity and most of all, our being compassionate. Yes, we are missing the fun, the mall, the movies, birthdays, and the hugs of our dear friends. I know you and I are so eager to see each other. But we understand, and we submit ourselves to obedience that we need to stay home and be content to see one another on the screen. After all, we are very grateful for so many things. We are lucky that in this era, communication is no longer a hindrance. The best that we can do, is to keep praying that this pandemic will end soon or perhaps subside.

It breaks my heart every time I hear the news about students giving up their life due to pressures in their studies, financial problems, or maybe due to a family member succumbing to death due to the virus during this tough time.  Life may be hard now; it may sound unfair for some.  Lucky are we, attending online classes or doing modular learning at the comfort of our own home. Other students are struggling with their gadgets, taking risks climbing the peaks of their areas just to find a better site for wi-fi signals in order to attend classes. Let us remember that this battle is not about who has much. This is about facing the challenge bravely. It takes discipline, courage, positivity, inner strength and faith in God for us to overcome and be victorious at the end of this fight. We are the captain of our life. We define our own destiny. Soon we will wake-up to a new day, a new better-normal. A happy world for you and me.
